Platypus Craftivity-Free

I made this to use on our "Stuffed Animal Day" to celebrate the story Plaidypus Lost. The students draw a picture of the stuffed animal they bring to school in the frame and then make the platypus. I hope that you like it!

Pets and Pigs Literacy Unit

There are many activities and teaching materials to use for any literature books or informational texts about pigs or pets. The story Julius by Angela Johnson would be a perfect book to use for some of the activities in this unit. There is a detailed list of what is included at Teachers pay Teachers. Platypus Mathematics Centers

I created some Mathematics centers to use with my literacy unit about Platypuses. There are six centers that are differentiated and aligned with the Common Core Standards and have recording sheets. Click here if you are interested, they are at TpT for $3.50. 

These centers only focus on the numerals 0-5 and here is a photograph of some of the centers in the packet:

I am working on a Community Helpers Mathematics Center Packet to go along with the story Miss Bindergarten Takes a Field Trip with Kindergarten. It will be similar to the Platypus Math Center packet. And I have all my clip art ready to start on Julius!

Big Book Idea

I really like to use big books. I have made many, many of them. I like to use the document camera to enlarge regular sized books into big books, but I still can not resist a big book. Here is an idea to use if you like to make them, too- use the large bulletin board kits that you can purchase.

And here is my big book (I made it several years ago before I knew about clip art/fonts- I was just happy to be able to change the font color!) I used information from the Trend set of Community Helpers Flash Cards to write the text and here is the link for those.

This would work very well with my Miss Bindergarten reading unit as informational text!

I decided not to make any formal handwriting lines in the boxes. I thought just the blank space would be enough for now.

Two Freebies!

Here are two things I just finished and I hope that you can use them!
Click here for the Fix-It Duck Matrix and Chart. There are two different activities to use with the story, Fix-It Duck. The matrix is for Literature and the chart is for Informational Text.

Click here for Write the Room Alphabet Letters. These are perfect to use for teaching how to write the room. They are a great companion to all my write the room sets. The cards are numbered, but you can easily mix and match the letters.

Name Puzzles-Freebie

Here is a great whole group or center activity - Name Puzzles! I am using this as a Literacy Center this week. You just print the strips and write the letters of the names randomly in the boxes. The student will cut them out and then glue them in order on a sentence strip. You could make a wall display by graphing the number of letters in the names. Concepts of Print

I just got this finished and wanted to post it today.

This packet has 3 activities to use for concepts of print. You can use the sorting cards as a whole group activity. The students will help to sort cards that are letters, numbers, words and sentences. There are 2 worksheets to use as a follow-up activity. Then I made a T-chart to use for letters in the student's name and letters not in the student's name. Click here for the packet of activities!

Common Core Freebie

I was having trouble finding just a simple listing of the Common Core standards for Reading/Language Arts and Mathematics. I needed them as a reference when I am typing out my lesson plans (we list them as "I can" statements for each lesson). Everything I could find was a checklist or small print that I, sadly, am having trouble seeing. So, I made my own and click here for your free copy!

I am keeping copies of these everywhere- plan book, curriculum binder, ideas binder and a bound copy. Yes, I can be forgetful and the more copies I have the more likely I will be able to find a copy.
