Gingerbread Displays

We created our Gingerbread Cookie Glyphs and have them displayed in the hallway. I think this glyph is patterned after one Mrs. Jump had on her website (before her blog). I added the student data sheet to mine.

Here is the key and class data sheet:

If you like the banner, you can grab a free copy here!

And Mom's Gingerbread Display:

I hope to finish my next display tomorrow. The tree is almost done. My students wrote their wish lists and I will put them all around it.  I used green glittered wrapping paper and cut it into strips then layered it and added a bow.

Life Cycles & Oviparous Animals Literacy and Math

There are several themes in the Life Cycles & Oviparous Animals Literacy Unit. I just could not decide so I included lessons about Friendship, Life Cycles, Oviparous Animals and geese & butterflies. The book Farfellina and Marcel By Holly Keller would be perfect to use with this unit. There are chart pieces, graphic organizers, student writing pages, picture cards for sorting, and many literacy centers. Click here if you are interested.
I wanted to thank Teachers Clipart for the geese clip art. She also made the ducks for my Ducks Unit.
The link to her TpT store is here.

My entire store is 20% off beginning today, Sunday until Tuesday and Monday & Tuesday you can get an additional 8% off using the code CMT12 when you check out.

I will be working on a Seeds and Plants Unit this week!

Grouping Students - Partners or Cooperative Groups

In our classroom, we have lots of opportunities to share - talking and telling answers to our shoulder buddies during carpet time and when working at tables, and sharing their writing on the document camera during Writer's Workshop. These are just some of the ways we share. I needed the students to not only have opportunities to share and show their work, but also provide feedback to each other about the work. I thought this would be easier to do with just 2-3 students in a group and not the same student they sit beside. So I used music and they walked around the classroom and when the music stopped the students shared their work with the person closest to them. That has been working great until they discovered that they could just follow the person they want to share with around the room-so smart! So I created grouping sticks and necklaces to group my students (either randomly or strategically) into partners for sharing or in cooperative groups for working on projects. I just pass them out to the students and they match up using the pictures.

I am selling these and have more photos and directions in the packet. They are easy to make-click here if you are interested.

Gingerbread Unit and a Freebie!

I also made a Gingerbread Unit that includes Literacy Activities for Whole Group Lessons, and Literacy & Mathematics Centers. The unit is aligned with the Common Core standards. It is organized like my other Literacy and Math packets. The books that could be used with this unit include: Gingerbread Man by Karen Schmidt or Gingerbread Boy by Paul Galdone, Gingerbread Baby & Gingerbread Friends by Jan Brett and Gingerbread Girl by Lisa Campbell-Ernst. Click here if you are interested in this packet.

Growing and Changing Literacy Unit and Math Centers

This Literacy Unit includes many activities, chart pieces, graphic organizers, student writing and response sheets, and many literacy centers for the theme "Growing and Changing." The book See How We Grow by Katacha Diaz would be prefect to use with some of the activities in this unit.

Up next-Life Cycles! Enjoy your afternoon-I will be working on 3 constellation projects with the triplets (yes, at the same time-yikes!)

Thanksgiving Freebie!

Here are some worksheets I made that you could use for morning work, center work or anytime!

We wrote about what we are thankful for.
I displayed the writing in the hallway. The turkey project can be purchased here.

Here is a great activity to use for the story, A Bed for the Winter.
We discussed the reasons that the dormouse gave for not making these places his bed for the winter.
The pictures are part of my Hibernation Literacy Unit.

Displays and Charts

Here are a couple of things we have been working on:

The students wrote about a time when they felt left out (like Bear in the story).

Mom made these charts to use with all the Bear stories by Karma Wilson. We plan to make another one for all the Little Quack stories. We just wrote about each book in the spaces after we read the book, but we will complete the Thanksgiving and Christmas stories later.

 Mom's Bear Tree Map

Each student designed a ball.
