Classroom Pet Show-Freebie

The story, Julius by Angela Johnson, is about a little girl who receives a "pet" pig. A classroom pet show would be a fun activity to use with this story! I have done this type of pet show (not using real pets) just about every year I have taught and my students really enjoy receiving awards for their pets.
Each student draws a pet (they have or would like to have)  and then writes about him/her. After school, the "judges" place the ribbons on the papers and then the next day the students get to see which one their pet was awarded.

  1. Great idea! However, what if a student does not have a pet? How does that work?

    1. They just draw a pet they would like to have. It is such a fun activity!
